Community Outreach -- Special Projects
Interested in working on the Community Outreach and Community Networking teams? These are special projects that they are working on and could use your help:
1. Demographics Project: Two phases: (a) collect information from the various international umbrella sporting groups (e.g. Federation of Gay Games, Volleyball, Softball, etc.) of their membership -- anything they have in terms of numbers, where they live, mix of male/female, age range/average, income range/average, professions, etc. (b) an online survey to collect new demographic information. This information will be used to get multi-nationals and local firms to sponsor gay athletes, conferences, teams, etc. -- once they know that we're an attractive market, they will be more eager to sponsor more events and professional athletes. 2. Collegiate Athletics Department Ratings Project: Similar to what US News and Business Week do for business schools, law schools, medical schools, etc., we will rate the gay friendliness of the top collegiate athletics departments. There was a similar rating that was done by a Stanford MBA student for the gay friendliness of the top 20 business schools and it was widely quoted and publicized. We would work with the NCAA and measure the various programs on their implementation and adherence to the NCAA diversity programs, whether or not they have coaches/students that are out, whether or not they have a gay group, resources for athletes, etc. Email: ratings@gayconference.org
3. Gay Athletics Timeline and Online Documentary: An online historical perspective of what has occurred so far, who was involved, etc. May include online video, stories, etc, of interviews of those involved. Email: timeline@gayconference.org
