About the National Collegiate
Athletics Association (NCAA), www.ncaa.com
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a voluntary
association of about 1,200 colleges and universities, athletic conferences and
sports organizations devoted to the sound administration of intercollegiate
athletics. Our many goals include: To initiate, stimulate and improve
intercollegiate athletics programs for student-athletes and to promote and
develop educational leadership, physical fitness, athletics excellence and
athletics participation as a recreational pursuit.
About Sexual Minorities In
Athletics (SMIA), www.smiaonline.org
Sexual minorities in athletics (SMIA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated
to promoting student welfare by advancing the enfranchisement of gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transsexual, and allied (GLBTA) athletes. Our goal is to develop
financially sustainable programs to combat homophobia within the world of
athletics, recognizing the interconnection of this effort with broader
societal movement toward equality and acceptance.
