Health, Fitness, and Wellness Clinics

At these clinics, which will all run simultaneously, conference participants will be able to walk in and sign up for personalized time slots to have their specific needs addressed. During their slot, they will be able to have specialists in the field- from doctors to podiatrists to physical therapists evaluate them. There will be flyers on injury prevention, videos to watch, and models demonstrating how to perform various exercises.

RUNNING/MARATHONING- This clinic will be headed by Dr. Jerry Pryde, who is a sports rehabilitation specialist. He is also a runner and marathoner. There will be a podiatrist, orthopedist, and physical therapist available to do evaluations and give advice. There will also be a treadmill for gait assessment.

ACUPUNCTURE- This booth will be headed by Philip Queeley who is a licensed acupuncturist. He and the other acupuncturists available also have specialized training in other Eastern medical arts, such as Kripalu bodywork, Tuina massage, and Korean physical manipulation. There will also be people from the New England Acupuncture School in Watertown to answer questions.

SPORTS MASSAGE- Larry Medolo from the Massage Institute of New England will be leading this clinic, and will be accompanied by four of his students from the school. Larry specializes in sports injury massage and regularly works will athletes and even a professional baseball team. More than just offering massage demonstrations, there will be some flyers on the effectiveness of massage in sport. There will also be a graduate of the Boston Shiatsu School who has expertise in Zen Shiatsu, Sotai and Japanese bodywork, Ki healing, and Gua Sha.

WEIGHT TRAINING- This clinic will be headed by Joey Krol who has 20 years of personal training experience behind him. He was a professional bodybuilder and now works with individuals as well as stage casts, developing individualized training programs tailored to one's needs. He will be joined by a fellow trainer and they will have free weights and benches to demonstrate various exercises. For more difficult techniques, there will be models present to demonstrate.

CORE STRENGTHENING (tentative)- Dr. Lee Wolfer will demonstrate basic techniques of core strengthening using the Core Board, developed by Reebok University. This concept involves using one's own balance (or lack of) to exercise and strengthen one's neuromuscular system. One will gain greater control by constantly putting the stability of the body to the test.
