Boston Mayor Menino Praises National Gay & Lesbian Athletics Being Held in Boston

BOSTON, MA - Boston Mayor Thomas Menino today praised the National Gay & Lesbian Athletics Foundation (GLAF) and their choice to hold the first annual National Gay and Lesbian Athletics Conference in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts, March 28-30, 2003.

The conference is being organized by the Gay & Lesbian Athletics Foundation (GLAF) and will be the first conference of its kind which focuses on the acceptance and visibility of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) athletes in the professional, amateur and recreational athletic communities.

Menino, a long-time supporter of gay rights, stated, “I am proud to welcome the first-ever National Gay & Lesbian Athletics Conference to Boston. Everyone knows that Boston is a great sports town, but Boston is also a city of diversity and that diversity includes a strong LGBT community that’s both visible and vibrant. Boston will be a terrific host for this important event.”

“This forum will provide LGBT professional, amateur and recreational athletes from around the world to share their stories and experiences and learn from one another,” said Mac Chinsomboon, Executive Director of GLAF.

The conference will include keynote speakers, panel discussions and workshops sponsored by such content sponsors as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).

The Gay & Lesbian Athletics Foundation is a 100% volunteer staffed nonprofit organization with 501(c)3 based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
